Head & Neck Pathology / Oral Medicine

Head and Neck Pathology

A great variety of problems can arise in the face, jaws, mouth, salivary glands, neck and thyroid that need differentiation and appropriate management. Again, we treat these with an integrated group of experts depending upon what the problem is.
At the consultation phase we can advise you the nature of a problem you may have, order the appropriate investigations, and finally advise you of the treatment options.

Oral Medicine

We manage the full range of mouth, mucosal and tongue problems that may require medical and not surgical treatment, although a biopsy is occasionally necessary.
Some of these problems are limited to the mouth and include conditions such as aphthous ulcers, lichen planus and fungal infections. Others involve both the mouth and other distant areas of the body such as endocrine glands, the cells in the blood stream, the bowels or the immune system. Examples of these are Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis, Pemphigus and Pemphigoid, various anaemias and many others. Sore mouth and sore tongue syndromes also present and need an examination to exclude any underlying systemic problems. These problems require investigation to exclude or to diagnose an underlying medical problem. Cross speciality referrals to other experts may therefore be required within London.
