Septorhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)

As part of Mr Heliotis' role in facial deformity/cosmetic and facial trauma surgery, he has developed his rhinoplasty practice to fit integrally in these fields over the years in his NHS and private practice. He manages some of the most challenging traumatic and post-traumatic septorhinoplasty cases in North West London as a result of being a trauma surgeon in NWLH NHS Trust as well as the maxillofacial trauma lead for the Major Trauma Unit at St Mary's Hospital Imperial NHS Trust, one of the four major trauma centers in London. We treat the most difficult naso-orbital and cranio-facial injuries in the North Western sector of London.

Traumatic and Post-traumatic Rhinoplasty and Nasal Reconstructions

These are some of the most difficult nose surgery procedures and involve reconstructing the different elements of the nose such the bones, the septum, cartilages, skin and dermal elements. Mr Heliotis has years of experience in these from his extensive facial trauma experience.
Post-traumatic deformities can range from the subtle deviation of the nose tip, to a very skew nose, loss of nasal bone and septal cartilage support resulting in a saddle nose deformity or displacement of the nasal elements leading to bumps, humps and skew nose deformities. Naturally these problems also lead not only to cosmetic defects, but to breathing problems.
Depending on the nature of the damage and the reconstructive septorhinoplasty needed, we perform a closed, or more often an open septorhinoplasty to correct the displaced and deformed components of the nose. Sometimes we carry out camouflage open or closed procedures for more subtle cosmetic deformities.
We use the full remit of autogenous (from the patient's own tissues) components including bone and cartilage from the nose, ears or rib cartilage harvesting if necessary for the bigger defects.
Mr Heliotis also has extensive experience in reconstructing complex nasal defects as a result of cancer as part of his skin cancer role, using grafts and complex flaps.
He also works cross-specialty with other excellent consultant colleagues and refers patients to ENT surgeons with a specific rhinology interest. Patients who may have complex nasal and sinus symptoms, obstructions and other pathology that requires functional endoscopic surgical techniques and sinus surgery alone or in combination with septo-rhinoplasty to address their specific needs get referred to these colleagues.

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty

We see many such patients in combination with facial, jaw and chin disproportions presenting in our clinics. People present with short/long chins/jaws/faces and often they have noses that exaggerate the underlying facial disproportion and vice versa. The nose in these cases often requires a cosmetic adjustment in conjunction with the chin/jaws/face and we are able to offer this to patients to ensure an overall aesthetically result is achieved.
We aim to get balanced faces with an appearance that is natural without betraying an obviously operated face or nose. Our experience in managing all aspects of facial disproportion and asymmetries that are congenital or post traumatic allow us to tackle the most challenging or subtle cases to fit harmoniously within the face.
We carry out closed and open septo-rhinoplasties depending on the underlying problem, with surgery for hump deformities, narrowing of the broad nose, correction of short or long noses, correction of saddle deformities with rib grafts if necessary, nasal tip refining, correction of nasal tip drooping (tip ptosis) or any other cosmetic concern.
Some of the most challenging cosmetic septo-rhinoplasties in our practice arise from patients requiring bimaxillary osteotomies whereby top and bottom jaws are moved to give a harmonious facial appearance. All these cases have a septoplasty and rhinoplasty, to different extents, either to maintain the nasal elements to where these should be, should we choose not to alter them, or to adjust the nasal bones, septum, lateral cartilages and tip to the new face we are giving the patient. This requires substantial experience and skill to deliver successfully. We have delivered very satisfying cosmetic and functional results to our patients.
It is this extensive background that allows us to deliver cosmetic rhinoplasty results that complement the face and give it an appearance that is aesthetically beautiful.
